*There are many options available for backing up your system. Although DentalMate does not specify a particular brand or type, it is highly recommended that an established product with a proven track record be used. Examples of a good choice would be an external hard disk, or flash drive. CD-RW is an example of a poor choice of backup media due to size limitations. Keep in mind when choosing a backup platform that new and fringe products have a way of being discontinued. The backup device must be located in the, “server”. Daily backups are required as part of the DentalMate support agreement.

Printer Specifications and Setup

Support of Window’s printers

DentalMate prints all printer output through the Windows printer driver. If a Windows driver exists for a specific printer and Windows version, then it will most likely work with the DentalMate product. However, keep in mind that printer manufactures release new models regularly. MDC Systems & Services, Inc. does not guarantee that any untested printer will print properly with DentalMate.

Note: Please take note that DeskJet printers offer an inexpensive color printing option to your system. Be aware that there are some considerations to keep in mind with this type of printer. Most importantly, these printers are VERY slow, and some reports may not line up properly. For these reasons, it is recommended that these printers only be used as a second printer. The primary printer should be a laser printer capable of handling the volume of printing being done. If you have a medium to large practice, the primary printer should be a high volume laser printer.

Optional Use Printers

Single Label Printer: Seiko Smart Label Printer, Brother Label Printer, Dymo Label Printer

Printer setup in DentalMate

• Setup printer in windows avoiding special characters in the name. Share all printers:
• Setup the printers on EACH workstation setting the Windows default printer to the printer most commonly printed to by this workstation when in DentalMate.
• Optional print devices, dedicated for single labels need to be initialized within DentalMate, using General Setup.
